This month, we embrace the theme of Self-Care & Nurturing, honoring the gentle power of listening to the body, creating sacred space, and coming home to ourselves with compassion and light.

Turning the Lights Back On: A Journey to Self-Care & Nurturing
Spotlighting Founder Jennifer Joy Jiménez
As a young professional dancer, I was trained to override my body’s wisdom. The message was clear: push harder, ignore the pain, train longer, starve if necessary, and mold myself into the “perfect” shape at any cost. Renewal and rejuvenation weren’t part of the vocabulary. The body was a machine to be disciplined, not a temple to be honored. At just 25, after leaving my modern dance company, I felt an inner stirring I couldn’t quite name—until I discovered I was pregnant. Pregnancy became my unexpected teacher. With a baby growing inside me, I had no choice but to listen. When my body needed rest, I rested. When it was hungry, I nourished it—knowing that to ignore my needs would be to neglect my child as well.
It felt like turning on the lights in a house that had been dark for a long time. Suddenly, I was present. I was listening. I was learning.
Like many women, I read all the books, took the classes, and even applied manifestation techniques to visualize my dream birth. Every night for nine months, I listened to ocean waves and envisioned ease and grace. But when the big day came, my labor stretched to 50 hours and ended with an epidural. Instead of triumph, I felt failure—like all my preparation was for nothing.
And yet, as I cradled my beautiful, healthy daughter in my arms, I realized this wasn’t the end of a dream. It was the beginning of a journey. What I thought was a failure became a doorway. A reminder that our greatest struggles often ignite our deepest callings.
This was the start of my quest to understand the mind-body-spirit connection, and ultimately, the meaning of true renewal. Renewal isn’t about perfection or control. It’s about keeping the lights turned on—listening to the subtle whispers of the body before they grow into screams of illness or injury. It’s about coming home to the body temple with reverence, tenderness, and joy.
🌸 Tips to Turn the Lights On in Your Own Life 🌸
- Listen Before Your Body Has to Shout
Notice the nudges—fatigue, tension, cravings, or emotions. They are love notes from your body guiding you toward balance. - Replace “Push Through” with “Pause and Breathe”
A full-body breath is one of the simplest ways to reset your nervous system. Breathe in deeply through your nose, exhale slowly through your mouth, and imagine light filling every cell. - Nourish Without Guilt
Food is not the enemy. It’s sacred fuel. Eat to honor both your body and your spirit, knowing that pleasure and nourishment are your birthright. - Move with Love, Not Punishment
Instead of exercise as a chore, explore movement as a celebration—dance, stretch, sway, or walk in nature. Movement can be medicine when it flows from joy. - Create Sacred Space for Self-Care
Light a candle, journal, or place a hand on your heart and belly to reconnect with your body temple. Small rituals anchor you back into presence. - Shift the Inner Conversation
Release criticism and choose loving affirmations: “I am whole. I am radiant. I am enough—exactly as I am.” Over time, these words re-pattern the way you see yourself.
For me, conscious dance became the path that brought me home. It helped me heal, reconnect, and eventually codify what I call the 10 Stages of TranscenDance®—a roadmap to wholeness and joy.
Sisters, you don’t have to wait for a crisis, an injury, or a diagnosis to awaken. You can choose today to flip the switch and flood your inner home with light. Renewal is not something you have to earn—it is your birthright.
Come home to your body temple. Turn on the lights. And watch as your whole life begins to glow.
