Introduction
Tracking technologies, such as cookies, tags, pixels, fingerprinting, web beacons, and similar scripts, are used to store and/or share information about website visitors, their systems, and browsers. Information collected by cookies and other tracking technologies varies depending on each website's components and can be of a personal nature (information that directly or indirectly identifies you) and of non-personal nature (information that does not directly or indirectly identify any single individual, such as cookies used to enable language settings on a website). Information of a personal nature may include details about the device you are using, the browser you are using, your IP address, the previous website you visited, whether you clicked on one of our ads, and your browsing behavior.
Some of the cookies and tracking technologies that we use are strictly necessary and are there to technically enable the website and its components, as well as, to enable security measures. Strictly necessary cookies are activated without user consent because they are considered necessary for the website to function effectively and in a secure way. All cookies and other tracking technologies that are not classified as strictly necessary are subject to consent from website visitors.
This notice is for visitors to our websites (e.g. bravethinkinginstitute.com), apps, and other digital platforms (“Cookie Notice”). It outlines information about the cookies (including similar tracking technologies) we use, as well as the categories of information we collect, and the purposes for which the cookies and other tracking technologies collect information.
For further information on how Brave Thinking Institute handles Personal Information please see our Brave Thinking Institute Privacy Notice.
Cookies and similar technologies
| Type of Technology | Description | Purposes |
|---|---|---|
| Cookies | A cookie is a small text file sent to your browser from a website you visit. They help the website to remember information about you, such as your language preferences and login information, or to carry out the necessary communication transmissions (e.g. HTTP requests) to provide a service or application that you have requested, making it easier for you to visit the site again. |
|
| Digital Fingerprints | Digital fingerprints involve the collection of a set of features and characteristics from a device (e.g. navigator language, window screen, time zone, location, CPU vendor, memory size, or image processing) for several purposes, such as enhancing security or adapting the user's experience on the website. |
|
| Web Beacons | Web beacons are small tags placed on a website resource or in an email to track how the user interacts with the content. This interaction generates a "hit," counting your interaction with the HTML content. For example, if you click on one of our ads on the website, a web beacon will record that interaction. |
|
| Web Tags or Tracking Pixels | Web tags and tracking pixels are a type of code (e.g. JavaScript code in a tag manager) or pixel (a small 1x1 transparent image) loaded into the web page to enable website features, like the web design components, or to track user's behavior across websites and devices. These are commonly associated with social media widgets such as a 'like' button. |

Our Content Delivery Network (CDN)
In addition to the cookies and other tracking technologies described above, our websites use a Content Delivery Network (CDN) that enables our website to load correctly and securely reach website visitors.
Our CDN is provided by Cloudflare, a company headquartered in the USA. For more information, please see our Brave Thinking Institute Privacy Policy.
Cloudflare's systems collect payload data from HTTP requests, including website visitors' IP addresses. Whereas payload is localized to the region where visitors come from, IP addresses are securely transferred to the Cloudflare servers in the USA, securely stored in volatile storage for a maximum of seven days, and then they are deleted.
Cloudflare uses the Anycast routing technology to enable its CDN functionalities without Brave Thinking Institute needing to store or retain any payload data processed during a HTTP request so we can deliver content cached in the nearest Cloudflare's Edge Server. We receive only the communication from Cloudflare about what kind of element is necessary to load (e.g. HTML elements like text, fonts, and layout) due to a user's visit to our website.
Our CAPTCHA solution
Our websites use Turnstile, a security solution provided by Cloudflare, to protect against automated attacks such as brute-force attempts, credential stuffing, and other types of attacks that can harm our website and its visitors. When a visitor accesses our websites, their device is checked against a reputation database maintained by Cloudflare to determine whether it poses a threat. If the device is deemed suspicious, Cloudflare Turnstile may present the visitor with a challenge, such as a CAPTCHA, to verify that they are a human. The challenges include proof-of-work, proof-of-space, probing for web APIs, and various other challenges for detecting browser quirks and human behavior.
Despite Turnstile being a 'cookieless' solution, depending on how your browser console displays the network information, you might see a domain request on the cookies section from Cloudflare (challenges.cloudflare.com) indicating a potential nameless cookie. This behavior occurs as Cloudflare uses JavaScript challenges to gather the access signals about the visitor/browser from this domain to perform the validation process, and confirm data without actually collecting or storing that information. Turnstile might look to your session data (like headers, user agent, and browser characteristics) to validate users based on Cloudflare's information collected directly from the vendor (e.g., device details). Managing your cookie settings
To the extent that it is technically feasible, and insofar as trackers are not related to any strictly necessary purposes, we will block all non-essential trackers until you provide your consent, as we operate our sites on a strict opt-out basis to safeguard and respect your privacy.
These include all trackers used for marketing and analytics, as well as targeted advertising. Please note, however, that accepting only necessary cookies may affect your browsing experience when compared with a user who has accepted these functionalities.
Before using our websites, you will be presented with a cookie banner where you can choose to 'allow all cookies', 'allow only necessary' or 'adjust your preferences' for a more tailored approach to cookie management.
If you do consent to the use of non-essential trackers, you can customize and withdraw your consent at any time (except concerning strictly necessary cookies) in our Cookies Preference Center where you can specify which cookies and tracking technologies you consent to.
You can also manage your cookie preferences by interacting with the floating cookie icon located on the bottom left-hand side of the web page.
For cookies and similar technologies that are classified as strictly necessary, due to the essential nature of such technologies in our application, you will not be able to disable them in our Preference Center. The banner and Preference center in each application domain has the objective of providing you with notice and transparency about our usage of strictly necessary cookies or similar technologies used in order to provide the service requested.
