Being a life coach is a dream career. But in the beginning, it can feel like a nightmare.
You might love what you do, but the results you’ve created aren’t anywhere close to what you would love.
As a result, you experience imposter syndrome, pressure from family or friends, or low income flow. And as lonely as the path may feel, you are not alone.
There are other life coaches just like you who blame themselves for their limiting paradigms and feelings of longing and discontent.
But it’s not their fault or yours. There are specific reasons why you aren’t achieving results as a life coach and none of them have to do with your heart, capabilities, or faith.
In this post, we’ll discover those reasons and how to fix them while following a real coach’s journey from “barely-making-it” to living an abundant, sustainable life as a coach.
The Life Coaching Dream vs. Your Current Experiences
Running your own life coaching business is a dream vocation and a sacred calling. You get to make your schedule, work from anywhere you want, and make as much money and impact as you’d love.
These are the main reasons people end up in life coaching, but learning to make the most of that freedom and generate the income and impact you desire is a part of the story no one wants to talk about.
To help us pull back the curtain, we’ll follow Ricardo Gonzalez’s journey.
Ricardo Gonzalez – Before the Dream
Before becoming a DreamBuilder Coach, Ricardo had four years of life coaching experience under his belt. He had $25,000 in debt and made $500 on a good month. But with his 75% interest rate, the amount he had to pay each month was more than he earned.
The bank would call him all throughout the day. He experienced horrible relationships and suffered from migraines all the time. And even with three different coaching certifications, they still weren’t helping him create a life he would love.
Perhaps you’re going through similar circumstances and find yourself wondering, “What am I doing wrong?”
But here at Brave Thinking Institute, we believe that people are far more powerful and contain more potential than any circumstance, situation, or condition.
This means that it’s never too late for you to bring your vision to life, regardless of your current life experiences. Facts change (like how much money you have in your account, where you live, etc.), but the truth stays the same:
It is possible to achieve peace and clarity in your life coaching business!
Curious to learn how?
Our journey will take us on a deep dive into Ricardo’s success story, and how you can create the same life-changing results!
The Real Reasons Why You Aren’t Achieving Results as a Life Coach
We often hear stories from life coaches that they’re doing everything they “should” do to get the results they desire, but end up still missing the mark.
This isn’t from a lack of heart, intention, or effort. It’s simply a lack of awareness that results in unexpected, costly mistakes.
This was the case for Ricardo. When he first joined Brave Thinking Institute for DreamBuilder LIVE, he was in love with his dream, but knew he needed to do something different to generate his desired income and impact.
The following five reasons you aren’t achieving results as a life coach are just a few of the obstacles that Ricardo overcame to go from “barely making it” to fully thriving.
These strategies have worked for over 4,000 diverse coaches from all walks of life, at every stage of business.
And the same results are possible for you. So, let’s get started.
#1 – Your Current System of Transformation Isn’t Creating Results
As a transformational life coach, people will bring you their most precious dreams and desires. And your role as a life coach is to empower people to create and live a life they love, bridging the gap from their current circumstances to their dream life.
This is the biggest difference between a therapist and a life coach. While therapists look to the past for healing and processing, transformational life coaches focus on their client’s desired future!
How you navigate that transformational journey can determine the quality of your clients’ experience and their results.
Maybe you’re still updating your curriculum or still figuring out how to run an effective coaching session. Perhaps the clients you’re accepting into your program end up disconnecting and disappointed. Or maybe your clients seem surprised and delighted, but you’re simply not getting the raving reviews and testimonials you expected.
The problem isn’t you.
You already have everything inside you to create powerful transformation in your life and others.
But you may just be working with a broken, untested, or unreliable system.
And until you activate a sustainable system of transformation for your clients, the only consistency you’ll experience is inconsistency.
After all, it took Ricardo a proven and predictable system to generate the kinds of results that attracted high-quality, eager-to-invest clients. We can teach you the same system here.
#2 – You Were Taught Directive Coaching
There are two main coaching styles: directive and evocative.
Directive coaching is when you offer your own expertise and experience to “direct” your client on what they “should do” and “how to do it.”
Evocative coaching supports clients in following their own inner guidance through calibrated questions. These series of questions help expand your client’s mindset, unlock their inner wisdom, and imagine possibilities outside their current circumstances, situations, or conditions. Ultimately, evocative coaching is all about connecting with the Infinite (God, Life, Source, etc.)
Clients are empowered to come up with their own solutions, which ultimately leads to a higher success rate and more dreams becoming a reality! This system of transformation results in inspired action versus directed action.
Evocative coaching is one of the reasons why transformational life coaches often create more impact than traditional life coaches. And it’s also why we teach evocative coaching to our own students!
#3 – Your Business Needs a Results-Driven Economic Engine
On his own, Ricardo charged $37 per coaching session. While he had three different coaching certifications, none of them provided a successful and sustainable economic engine.
When he found out that most transformational life coaches charge $3000+ for their programs, he couldn’t believe it was possible for him to charge that much in his own business. He didn’t think anyone in Mexico would invest in his program at that price point.
Ricardo held on to the limiting belief of “I could never charge that much for my services…maybe they can, but I can’t.
“He dug deep into our coaching training and discovered:
- How to build his business through attraction marketing, strategy sessions, speaking engagements, social media, webinars, and more…
- The rapid client attraction formula…
- Heart-Centered Enrollment and creating conversations that close…
- Client manifestation, VIP sales, and program offer scripts…
- And more!
After graduating from our program, he generated $7,000 within his first month. The following month, he generated his previous annual income: $25,000.
As he continued to tap into the power of believing in and working toward his dream with a proven economic engine, he was eventually able to generate $4 million in a single year.
And he is the same loving, caring, coach. But now, instead of just wanting transformation for himself and his clients, he can guarantee it!
And so can you.
#4 – Your Sales Tactics Are Failing You
In the beginning stages, it can be difficult to deal with rejection. It can also be one of the most anxiety-inducing parts of sales, but it doesn’t have to be.
As a transformational life coach, success comes from the energy of your transactions, not just the quantity. And in order to magnetize high-quality clients, it’s important to have effective branding and a client intake questionnaire.
When you have those pieces in place, you’ll be ready to have meaningful conversations with people instead of feeling manipulative or “salesy”. In fact, most life coaches feel uncomfortable about selling because of this “icky” and insincere energy.
That uncomfortable feeling usually comes from sales strategies that encourage you to view clients as dollar signs and do everything possible to secure a sale. But this thinking comes from a scarcity mindset.
Instead, we train our coaches in “heart-centered enrollment“, where they speak from a place of service and create interactions that are fun, empowering, and inviting. It’s a seven-step formula that leaves potential clients feeling listened to, safe, and cared for.
And as a result, you’ll increase their chances of your clients saying “YES” to investing in their dreams and enrolling in your coaching program.
This system allowed Ricardo to go from charging $37 per session to charging $6000+ all because he started implementing these two gold nuggets of his coaching training:
1. He stopped chasing clients and chose who he wanted to work with.
2. He learned how to keep on scaling.
#5 – You Don’t Have Partners in Believing
One of the fundamental reasons why you aren’t achieving results as a life coach could be a serious (and unconscious) case of Lone Ranger Syndrome.
Symptoms include keeping to yourself, believing you can do everything on your own, and rarely asking for help (since it’s often perceived as a sign of weakness). As a new life coach, it can seem easier to live and breathe as a Lone Ranger.
But being a Long Ranger is a fast and easy way to see your business fail.
You see, highly successful people make it a habit to:
- Ask questions, seek mentorship, and surround themselves with partners in believing (like-minded people who will continue to believe in you and your dream when life’s obstacles show up and your limiting paradigms rise up to dissuade, distract, or delay you).
- Seek mentorship from people who are already living in the results they would love for themselves.
- Invest in mastermind groups and play full out in challenges and events (like Coach-A-Palooza) where they continue to be students of transformation.
Ricardo tapped into this growth mindset which became the catalyst of his life-changing success.
With all his debt and doubt, he still felt called to train with us at Brave Thinking Institute as a DreamBuilder Coach. He learned how to stare down his fear, completely immersed himself, and surrounded himself with partners in believing.
After graduation, he reaped exponential results:
- He was able to pay off the certification program cost in full within one month of graduation.
- In the next 6 months, he was debt-free.
- He started scaling with group sessions and one-on-one coaching (From $37 per session to $3,000, to $6,000+).
- In 2021 alone, Ricardo generated $4 million by coaching, serving, and helping people through his calling.
These numbers are meaningful because Ricardo’s income represents the impact and value he brings to the world and his coaching clients!
And better yet, he’s still growing!
