Have you struggled to create success as a coach?

Are you tired of feeling stuck and like all of your efforts aren’t paying off the way you’d hoped?

If so, common limiting beliefs might be blocking your impact and success, keeping you from fulfilling your purpose and potential!

In fact, both aspiring and experienced coaches are especially susceptible to certain limiting beliefs. Their huge heart for helping others, past experiences, and desire to create success on their own terms can influence their internal belief systems.

The good news is, overcoming self limiting beliefs is possible- and you can start now! In this post, I’ll help you understand what limiting beliefs are, explore the top 10 self-limiting beliefs that most often impact coaches, and provide action-steps to help you overcome them…

So you can start living the life of purpose and success that you dream of!

Could you feel empowered, inspired, & excited about your coaching business in just 5 days?

What Are Limiting Beliefs?

Limiting beliefs are negative thoughts and assumptions we hold about ourselves and the world around us. They often stem from past experiences, societal expectations, or deeply ingrained core beliefs. Limiting beliefs can hold us back from pursuing our dreams and reaching our full potential.

Limiting beliefs:

  • Keep us from pursuing and achieving what we desire (and what we need)
  • Are formed unconsciously and often rooted in childhood
  • Are treated as unquestionable truths by the subconscious mind
  • Can be absolute statements, fears, excuses, or assumptions about what’s true and possible

As a coach, identifying and overcoming these beliefs is crucial for your success and the success of your clients!

Our beliefs determine our reality. The way that we interpret our experiences and respond to our environment is directly influenced by the beliefs we hold.

Limiting beliefs usually fall into one of 4 categories:

1 – The Fear of Being Fundamentally Flawed

If you’ve ever experienced imposter syndrome, you understand the fear of being fundamentally flawed. These beliefs tell you that you’re inherently not good enough, even when all evidence shows you that it’s not true.

2 – Fear of Loyalty and Abandonment

The people in your life have an amazing influence on you. Your goals and success impact them and their opinion impacts you. These beliefs are designed to maintain the status-quo to avoid negative opinions, rejection, and abandonment from others.

3 – Fear of the Burden of Success

There are responsibilities that go along with any type of success. You might not fully recognize this, but part of you might fear being able to cope with these extra challenges. Your subconscious mind will use anticipated burdens as reasons to stay small and stuck.

4 – Fear of Outshining

Fear of outshining means you’re worried about how your success will impact your position among the people or groups that are important to you. Your subconscious mind might reason that “outshining” might lead to a loss of belonging or identity.

Top 10 Coaching Limiting Beliefs List

1. “I’m Not Good Enough to Be a Successful Coach”

Recognizing the Belief:
This belief often manifests as self-doubt and a lack of confidence in your abilities. You might find yourself thinking, “Who am I to coach others?”, “No one will listen to me”, or “I don’t have enough experience.”

Overcoming the Belief:

  • Reflect on your journey and acknowledge the skills and knowledge, and experience you’ve gained.
  • Seek testimonials from those you’ve already helped, even informally, to boost your confidence.
  • Remember, everyone starts somewhere. Embrace continuous learning and growth.

Empowering Belief: “God doesn’t call the qualified; He qualifies the called. I am called to help others for a purpose that is bigger than my fears.”

2. “I Don’t Deserve Success”

Recognizing the Belief:
This belief is often rooted in feelings of unworthiness or imposter syndrome. Thoughts like “Success is for others, not for me” may frequently cross your mind.

Overcoming the Belief:

  • Practice positive affirmations to reinforce your worthiness.
  • Surround yourself with a supportive community that believes in your potential.
  • Set small, achievable goals and celebrate your successes to build confidence.

Empowering Belief: “My longing for more is a sign that more is available to me. I can create success when I commit to my own growth.”

3. “I Can’t Charge for My Services”

Recognizing the Belief:
You may feel uncomfortable discussing money or fear that clients won’t pay your rates. This negative belief often stems from a scarcity mindset or discomfort with valuing your services.

Overcoming the Belief:

  • Research industry standards and understand the unique value and results you provide.
  • Practice discussing your fees confidently and transparently.
  • Remember, charging appropriately allows you to provide even better services and invest in growth.

Empowering Belief: “My income is directly proportional to the impact I am able to make. Giving people the opportunity to invest in themselves helps me help even more people.”

4. “I’m Not Ready”

Recognizing the Belief:
You might feel that you need endless certifications and training before you’re qualified to coach. Or, you may find yourself endlessly stuck in “busy work” to get ready to launch your business or program. This belief can be a form of procrastination or fear of stepping out of your comfort zone.

Overcoming the Belief:

  • While preparation is important, understand that taking action drives results.
  • Start with the knowledge and experience you have and commit to lifelong learning.
  • Focus on the impact you can make from where you are and with what you have.

Empowering Belief: “If I wait to be perfect, I’ll never start. I trust in my calling to make a difference and I choose to act now from where I am and with what I have.”

5. “I’m Not Good with Money”

Recognizing the Belief:
You may feel overwhelmed by financial management and doubt your ability to run a profitable business. This belief can lead to poor financial decisions and a lack of confidence around managing money. It can even keep you from making the income you truly desire.

Overcoming the Belief:

  • Educate yourself on basic financial management and budgeting.
  • Seek advice from other professionals or mentors.
  • Create a clear financial plan and track your progress regularly.

Empowering Belief: “Money is a tool that helps me experience freedom, fulfillment, and ease while helping others. Just like any tool- even a hammer and nail- I can learn to use it better than I can right now.”

6. “The Market is Too Saturated. There’s too much competition.”

Recognizing the Belief:
You might believe there are already too many coaches, and there’s no room for you. This belief often stems from a fear of competition and a scarcity mindset.

Overcoming the Belief:

  • Identify your unique value proposition and what sets you apart.
  • Focus on your niche and target audience, rather than the entire market.
  • Remember that your unique experiences and perspective are valuable.

Empowering Belief: “There are people waiting to work with me who are aligned with my message and coaching style. There are enough clients to go around.”

7. “I Can’t Balance Coaching with My Personal Life”

Recognizing the Belief:
You may worry that starting or growing your coaching business will take over your personal life. This belief can lead to burnout and resentment.

Overcoming the Belief:

  • Set clear boundaries between work and personal time.
  • Prioritize self-care and make time for activities that recharge you.
  • Delegate tasks where possible and consider hiring help as your business grows.

Empowering Belief: “People make time for the things they choose to prioritize. As a coach, I can design the business and life that I love. I am excited to prioritize both my success and the things that are most important to me.”

8. “I’m Too Old/Too Young to Start”

Recognizing the Belief:
You might feel that your age is a barrier to starting or growing a coaching business. This belief can be based on societal expectations or comparisons to others.

Overcoming the Belief:

  • Embrace the unique perspective your age brings to your coaching.
  • Connect with clients who resonate with your experience and background.
  • Remember that there is no perfect age to start – your journey is unique.

Empowering Belief: “It’s never too late or too early to create a life and a career that I love. Now is always the perfect time for my dreams.”

9. “I Don’t Have Enough Time”

Recognizing the Belief:
You might feel overwhelmed by your current responsibilities and believe you can’t fit coaching into your schedule. This belief can lead to procrastination and missed opportunities.

Overcoming the Belief:

  • Analyze your current schedule and identify areas where you can make time for coaching.
  • Prioritize your tasks and focus on high-impact activities.
  • Consider reducing or delegating less important tasks to free up time.

Empowering Belief: “I will always have enough time for the things I choose to prioritize. The more I invest in pursuing my purpose and dreams, the more resources I will have to balance my time, energy, and resources.”

10. “I’ll Never Be Successful”

Recognizing the Belief:
You might have a pessimistic outlook and believe that success is unattainable. This belief can be a self-fulfilling prophecy, leading to inaction and stagnation.

Overcoming the Belief:

  • Set realistic and achievable goals to build momentum.
  • Surround yourself with positive influences and mentors who inspire you.
  • Celebrate your progress and remind yourself of your successes regularly.

Empowering Belief: “Success is my birthright. The success I would love is as possible and available to me as anyone else.”
