At Brave Thinking Institute, we teach that money is not just a medium of exchange. It’s a mirror.
It reflects the deepest beliefs we hold about ourselves, our worth, and the nature of abundance.
The Spiral of Becoming reminds us that transforming our thinking is a key step in becoming the person who lives a life they love. If you want to create new financial results, you must first uncover and repattern the paradigms that have shaped your current money reality.
So what are the most common limiting beliefs about money? And how do they block abundance?
Let’s take a closer look.
1. “Money is hard to get.”
This belief assumes scarcity. It’s rooted in the subconscious programming that you must struggle, sacrifice, and strive in order to receive financial good.
And, quite frankly, if you’ve grown up in the same world as most of us, it’s perfectly understandable why you would believe this.
It’s the exact message that’s been hammered home through every single one of society’s loudspeakers since the day we were born!
In many ways, up until now, you had no choice but to believe that financial good only comes through difficulty and struggle.
But spiritual law teaches the opposite: abundance (in all its forms) is always present. It’s not a question of how much is available, but how open you are to receiving it.
Truth to replace it: “Abundance is my birthright. I am surrounded by opportunity, and money comes to me through expected and unexpected channels.”
2. “I’m not good with money.”
This self-concept becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you believe you’re “bad” with money, you’ll likely avoid managing it, miss opportunities, or self-sabotage when wealth begins to grow.
This also ties back to the same societal conditioning discussed above. If we feel that financial success only comes from endless, exhausting struggle, then it’s natural to view ourselves as being “bad” with money.
If we don’t know a single person who experiences money as a joyful, easy part of their lives, then why would we?
But here’s the truth: you weren’t born knowing how to walk either. Being “good with money” is a skill, not an identity.
Truth to replace it: “I can learn to steward money wisely. I am growing in confidence, clarity, and competence.”
3. “Wanting more money is selfish or unspiritual.”
Many spiritual seekers struggle here. We’ve been taught that desire for money is greedy — that to want wealth is to somehow reject humility or spiritual integrity.
This negative attitude towards wealth often arises when we encounter one of the relatively rare individuals in life who does experience financial abundance.
When we come across such a person, our programming tells us that this isn’t normal (after all, “money is hard to come by!”) and this compels us to explain the exception in negative terms.
It’s much more comforting to believe that if someone is blessed with wealth, they obtained it selfishly or unspiritually (rather than to believe it came to them in a totally natural, neutral way.)
After all, if this last interpretation is true, then what does it say about us NOT having the financial abundance we would love?
But Brave Thinking teaches that money is neutral. It’s a tool. It simply amplifies the heart of the person who wields it.
Truth to replace it: “Money in the hands of love is a powerful force for good.”
As Mary Morrissey says: “Abundance is not your idea. It’s God’s idea.”
4. “There’s never enough.”
This belief creates a chronic emotional and energetic state of lack, even for those with outward success. It results in overspending, hoarding, guilt, or anxiety about the future.
Once again, though: if we look at this limiting belief as an extension of society’s lifelong false programming about money and abundance, it makes perfect sense that so many of us have it.
After all, if money itself is seen as saturated in difficulty, and out of reach for all but a “selfish, unspiritual” wealthy few…then why wouldn’t we think there’s never enough of it?
We call this scarcity thinking — and it can’t co-exist with the vibration of wealth. Remember, you cannot attract abundance while feeling lack.
Fortunately, once we recognize this as conditioning rather than truth, rising above it becomes far easier.
Truth to replace it: “I live in a limitless universe. There is always more where that came from.”
5. “I have to choose between money and purpose.”
This false dichotomy keeps many brilliant people stuck. The belief that you must pick between being wealthy or doing meaningful work is a cultural myth, not the ultimate truth.
If anyone in your life has said things to you like “they call it work for a reason, it’s not supposed to be fun”, you can rest assured that this myth has throttled your financial success.
The great news is, while you may have been limited by this kind of thinking up until now, it’s fully possible to break free and rise into true financial freedom.
In Brave Thinking, we bridge purpose and prosperity. You are meant to do work you love and thrive financially. Not to pick one or the other, endlessly second-guessing your choice.
Truth to replace it: “When I serve from my purpose, prosperity flows. I am richly rewarded for sharing my gifts.”
6. “I don’t deserve wealth.”
This is one of the most toxic and deeply rooted beliefs.
It’s often unconscious, shaped in early childhood or by past trauma. It shows up as undercharging, overgiving, or blocking opportunities.
But you are a spiritual being, created by a lavishly abundant universe. Deserving is not something you earn. It’s your essence.
Does a bird “earn” its wing-flapping technique? Does the wind “earn” the right to blow? Or the rain “earn” its fall from the clouds?
Of course not. All of it happens naturally, as expressions of the nature of birds, wind, and rain.
What you have never been told is that wealth and financial freedom work the same exact way.
We were created to experience these at their utmost, not scrape by with barely enough to live.
Truth to replace it: “I am worthy of abundance simply because I exist. Infinite Intelligence expresses through me, as me.”
7. “I have to do it all myself.”
This belief isolates us from support, both earthly and Divine.
It’s rooted in fear and control, and cuts us off from the infinite organizing intelligence that knows how to bring about our dreams.
The path of the Brave Thinker is not one of struggle (even if we occasionally experience setbacks, as all of us do from time to time.) It is one of co-creation.
In fact, the setbacks are life’s way of co-creating that inevitable success with you. They are teaching moments in which you discover greater truths about what does and does not bring your vision to life.
When you live from a vision, setbacks are simply part of the story you will one day tell after your inevitable success. Not a permanent home or psychological resting place.
Truth to replace it: “I am guided and supported. Infinite Intelligence is my partner in every endeavor.”
8. “If I get more, others will get less.”
This is the myth of the fixed pie: the idea that wealth is limited, and that your gain must mean someone else’s loss.
As is the case with the limiting beliefs above, this is a natural (and false) product of seeing money as limited, difficult to obtain, and shrouded in struggle.
When this is the “soup” that we’ve simmered in since day one, it makes sense to assume that one person’s success must penalize or limit another’s.
Cheerfully, though, universal law tells us that supply is infinite. As Wallace Wattles writes in The Science of Getting Rich, the “Formless Substance” is everywhere, and it responds to thought.
Your abundance doesn’t take from others in any way. In fact, it can become the very source that blesses them.
As is often the case, the truth is the exact opposite of what most people popularly believe. And while it can initially be painful to see how much of our thinking has been misguided, it also creates the possibility for rising higher (in results and satisfaction) than we ever have.
For now, as counterintuitive as it may seem, remind yourself that your success harms no one.
Truth to replace it: “The more I thrive, the more I can give, share, and circulate good.”
The Bottom Line:
To increase your income, live in greater financial freedom, or experience true abundance, you must stand guard at the portal of your mind…and lovingly abandon beliefs that keep you small.
Here’s the great news:
💡 You do not have to believe these old stories anymore.
