At Brave Thinking Institute, we often hear the question, “How do I find a career I love?” or “How do I manifest a new job?”
When it comes to creating a life you love, we encourage Brave Thinkers to think in terms of “vocation” instead of “jobs”, or even “career.”
Because “vocation” is not just a career path or a way to earn money. It’s the sacred intersection between your gifts, your joy, and your impact on others.
It’s the expression of the life you’re meant to live when you are fully aligned with your inner truth and the power breathing you (whether you call that life, God, spirit, faith, the Universe, or something else.)
For many people, that includes their professional work, but vocation is much broader than that.
It’s the calling to express the highest version of yourself through what you give, what you create, and how you serve other people in the world.
For some, that calling leads to questions like “what is my dream job?” For others, it stretches beyond their immediate employment prospects, and leads to a deep inner search for what kind of work they actually want to do at all.
Our founder, Mary Morrissey, teaches that “each of us is encoded with a unique pattern of genius.”
There are talents that you were born with that no one else who’s ever drawn breath has had in the exact same way (or, in some cases, had at all.)
That inner genius isn’t just for our own personal fulfillment. It’s for contribution to others in the world around us.
And vocation is how that contribution gets expressed, moment by moment, choice by choice, day by day.
What is My Vocation? How Do I Find a Career I Love with Brave Thinking?
At Brave Thinking Institute, we often look at vocation through a powerful “sweet spot” lens, where four critical forces meet:
- What you love to do
- What you’re good at (or can grow into)
- What the world needs or benefits from
- What you can be paid or supported for
When all four are active and in alignment, you’re in your vocational flow. You wake up with energy. You feel creatively engaged. You serve meaningfully.
And, yes, you can be supported financially, because value is flowing through you into the world.
We reject the common idea that work is just a lifelong slog that you tolerate to obtain money.
While not every task may be enthralling and fun, it is absolutely possible for your vocation to be massively joyful overall.

How Do I Manifest a Job I Love? What is the Right Job for Me?
The signs are subtle but unmistakable. You feel a sense of aliveness. Even when challenges arise (and they will!) there’s a deeper, pulsating “yes” underneath your efforts.
You might notice time flies when you’re engaged in certain activities. Others may reflect to you that something about your energy shifts when you’re doing “that thing”—teaching, designing, healing, organizing, leading, or nurturing.
You may also feel a persistent longing or discontent in your current role. That’s not something to fear. In Brave Thinking, longing and discontent are sacred signals. They don’t mean something’s wrong. They mean something more is calling you.
Your current job may be part of your vocational path…or it may be a stepping stone.
The key is to listen to the life within you and start aligning with what would bring deeper fulfillment.
How to Find a Career You Love: Busting the “Fate” Myth
One of the biggest myths we undo in Brave Thinking is that your purpose—or your “vocation”—is something you have to wait to be revealed, like a secret blueprint.
In truth, vocation is created by design, not assigned by fate. You don’t need a perfect resume or a lightning bolt of clarity to begin.
You begin by noticing what gives you life, and by choosing, day by day, to lean toward it.
Mary teaches that “life is not happening to you—it’s happening for you, and through you.” Your desires aren’t random. They are the whispers of Infinite Intelligence, guiding you toward a life of contribution and fulfillment. That is vocation.
The False Choice Keeping You Stuck: Should You Work for Money or Passion?
A common misconception is that choosing a meaningful path means sacrificing financial well-being. In Brave Thinking, this is a false choice.
We teach that abundance is your birthright, and when you are living in alignment with your true vocation, the opportunities for financial support expand accordingly.
Why? Because you’re tapping into the most magnetic version of yourself—one who gives deeply of yourself in a way that genuinely benefits others.
Your income may not double overnight. But your value in the world multiplies. And as you become more aligned with abundance and service, you begin attracting people, resources, and possibilities that weren’t visible to you before.
Is it too Late to Change Careers?
Some people come to Brave Thinking feeling that they’ve missed their chance. They’re in midlife or beyond, and wondering, “Is it too late to start over?”
The answer is always: No. Your vocation is not a fixed track. It is a living relationship between your soul and your service, in whatever form that takes.
At any age, at any stage, you can begin again. As long as you are breathing, life is still calling you toward fuller expression.
In fact, many people find that what seemed like detours or delays were actually training grounds.
Every past job, challenge, or unexpected turn was building you into the person you’re now becoming—the one finally ready to say yes to their highest calling.
Brave Thinking sees vocation as the joyful, authentic, and often imperfect path of saying “yes” to your life’s deepest calling. It’s not just about “doing what you love”—it’s about becoming who you are through the work you give to the world.
Beyond a Just a “Better Job”: Creating a Life You Love Has Never Been Easier
Whether you’re just beginning to explore this idea or feeling ready to pivot into a more meaningful role, remember: the power to choose is yours.
Because the life you love- the life designed by your heart’s deepest desires- probably doesn’t include a job that feels like checking your soul at the door for 40 hours a week.
And you’re closer than you think. The dream is already within you. And you’re not behind. You’re right on time.
