The 3-Step Method to Clarify Your Voice, Stand Out Online, and Start Attracting Ideal Clients
You’ve probably felt it—that frustrating moment when you’ve poured your heart into a post, hit “publish,” and heard nothing but crickets.
No likes, comments, or new leads.
It’s discouraging, especially when you know you have something valuable to offer.
Maybe you’ve started wondering if coaching is too saturated. Or if people just don’t get what you do. Or worse, if they’re just not interested.
If that sounds familiar, I want to offer you some clarity and encouragement today: it’s not that your coaching isn’t valuable. And it’s definitely not that you’re not cut out for this.
What’s likely missing is clear, powerful brand messaging—and once you get this piece right, everything changes.
In this post, we’re going to walk through exactly what brand messaging is (and how it differs from general branding), why so many new coaches feel invisible online, and how to apply a simple brand messaging framework to clarify your niche, your value, and your voice.
If you stick with me to the end, you’ll discover how you can build the confidence, clarity, and language to attract aligned clients with ease. Let’s dive in.
What Is Brand Messaging (And How It Differs from General Branding)?
When most people think of branding, they think of colors, logos, and pretty Canva templates. And while those visuals matter, they’re not what makes someone hire you.
So, what does? Words.
Your brand messaging is the language you use to communicate who you help, how you help them, and why it matters.
It’s your core message, your mission statement, and it’s what gives your brand identity meaning beyond just aesthetics.
Think of it this way: your visual branding is the outfit your business wears. But your branding message? That’s the conversation your business has with the world.
It’s the difference between a coach who posts, “I empower women to thrive” (which sounds lovely but vague) and one who says, “I help midlife women rebuild their confidence and launch the business they’ve been dreaming about for years.” One is pretty. The other is powerful.
Your branding message tells people what you do, who it’s for, and why you’re the one they should trust.
And when it’s done well, it becomes the foundation for all your content marketing, marketing campaigns, and offers.
That’s why brand messaging is crucial for small businesses, solopreneurs, and early-stage coaches: it’s an element that at no extra cost, can make all the difference between staying stuck and building momentum.
Why So Many Coaches Feel Invisible or Misunderstood Online
You’ve been showing up online and still feel like people don’t “get” what you do.
The result? You feel invisible. Or misunderstood. You start to question if your voice matters—or if you even have what it takes.
Here are some of the most common reasons new coaches struggle with creating a brand that resonates:
Speaking to everyone. When your message is too broad, it blends into the background. Saying “I help people live their best life” is inspiring… but too vague. People can’t see themselves in it. In order for your clients to hire you, they must feel seen. That you deeply know them–whether it’s because you’ve been in their shoes, or that you empathize with them. That’s how you start gaining their trust.
Using unclear language. We’ve all seen phrases like “activate your inner wisdom” or “live in alignment.” They sound beautiful, and perhaps you have a clear picture in your head of what that means… but if your potential customer doesn’t know what that looks like in their life, they’ll scroll right past. Instead, make sure you use specific details and descriptive language when you talk about their challenges, struggles, aspirations, or the results they’ll get from working with you.
Imitating what others are saying. Maybe you’re following 10 successful coaches and trying to model your posts after theirs. But when you mimic others, your true brand personality gets lost. Think about it–why is it that your friends like you? Because they can see the real you, and they connect with your essence. It’s no different for potential customers. Before they can say yes to your offers, they have to “know, like, and trust” you. And that begins with allowing them to see the real you–letting your unique light shine bright.
Overthinking everything. For most beginner coaches, this is a big one. You write, rewrite, tweak the font, delete the post… and never actually share your truth. Guess what happens? No one gets to see you, connect with you, or want to hire you. Many coaches procrastinate about showing up online because they feel they have to be perfect. They’re afraid of making the wrong move–when in reality, the worst mistake is not showing up at all. Your ideal customers don’t want to see “picture perfect,” they want to see YOU. And when it comes to content creation, consistency beats perfection.
When it comes to effective brand messaging, you don’t need to be louder. You just need to be clearer.
The Core Components of Brand Messaging That Converts
Strong brand messaging is like a lighthouse. It cuts through the noise and calls your people home.
And the good news? You don’t need a marketing degree to figure it out. You just need to use a simple message framework with three key parts:
1. Who You Help – your niche or audience
2. The Transformation You Offer – the result or outcome you help people achieve
3. Your Unique Voice or Method – what makes your approach different or personal
Let’s break each part down so you can start applying this to your own business.
Step 1: Clarify Who You Help
This is where most new coaches get stuck. You may be tempted to say, “I help everyone who’s ready to grow!”
I get. The transformational techniques, spiritual principles, and proven methods that you’ve worked hard to learn are indeed universal…
And when the bills start pilling up, or you want to prove to yourself that you can make it as a coach, the pressure to get clients –a client, someone, anyone– can be intense.
But the truth is, if you’re talking to everyone, you’re reaching no one.
Let’s get more specific. For example:
- Instead of “women,” try: “women over 40 navigating divorce and starting over.”
- Instead of “spiritual seekers,” try: “empaths who want to stop people-pleasing and start living authentically.”
To find out who your ideal customer is, ask yourself:
- Who do I feel most called to serve?
- What life experience have I walked through that I could help someone else with? (Hint: this is something your signature story can help you with – learn how to craft it here)
- Who would I love to coach every single day?
Choosing a niche doesn’t box you in. It helps your brand positioning statement land with more clarity and power.
Step 2: Define the Transformation You Offer
Let me make something very clear: you’re not selling “coaching.”
You’re offering a transformation. You’re selling a before and after.
Think about the specific results your clients want:
- Are they waking up dreading Mondays and dreaming of a career change?
- Are they stuck in self-doubt, craving the confidence to finally launch that business?
- Do they want to feel like themselves again after years of burnout?
Instead of saying, “I help women step into their power,” say:
“I help midlife women who feel stuck in a job they hate discover their purpose and build a coaching business they love.”
Do you feel the difference?
That’s an effective brand message because it names both the problem and the promise. That’s your brand promise—and it’s what people say yes to.
Step 3: Own Your Unique Voice or Method
Now let’s talk about what makes you different.
Your brand voice is the energy, tone, and personality you bring to your message. It’s how your audience feels when they read your content or hear you speak.
Do you bring spiritual depth and intuitive insight? Do you blend mindset coaching with practical strategy? Are you warm and nurturing, or bold and direct?
You don’t need to “perform” to be a coach. You just need to show up as YOU.
In my case, I’m a husband and dad. I know what it’s like to juggle family, responsibilities, and a calling that won’t let you go. That’s why I speak to aspiring coaches like they’re family—because I know how much heart it takes to build something new.
When you bring your story and voice into your brand messaging strategy, you stop sounding like everyone else—and start resonating with the people who need you most.
Putting It All Together: A Messaging Framework Example
Let’s pull it all together using the brand messaging framework. Here’s an example:
- Who I help: Women in their 40s who feel stuck in a job that drains them.
- The transformation: Helping them rediscover their passion and launch a fulfilling coaching career.
- Unique voice/method: Combining soul-based tools and practical strategy, guiding them to build a business that aligns with their higher purpose.
Now it’s your turn. I encourage you to go through these steps to craft your unique brand messaging.
This message becomes the backbone of your content marketing, website bio, sales pages, offers, and other key messages at the different customer experience touchpoints.
It’s the heart of how you show up in the world.

What Happens When Your Message Is Clear
Here’s what I’ve seen happen when coaches finally clarify their brand messaging:
- Their social posts suddenly start getting saved, shared, and commented on.
- Their inbox fills with messages from people saying, “I feel like you’re talking to me.”
- They stop second-guessing themselves and start sharing their truth confidently.
- They start building momentum—and getting clients.
Even more importantly?
They remember why they started this journey in the first place.
They feel connected to their purpose again and stop trying to “get it perfect”. Instead they focus on being real, relatable, and results-oriented.
That’s the power of a strong brand messaging strategy. It opens the door for your dream clients to find you—and say yes.
